Auto Repair Shop’s Roof Collapses Under Snow

An auto repair shop in Poughkeepsie has been forced to close due to the recent snow storms. The shop suffered irreparable damage when heavy snow caused the roof to collapse.

Those nearby claim that the collapse sounded like an explosion. The fire department was called and discovered that the shop had lost both the back wall and the roof. The owner, Franco Giangrasso said, “It’s very bad. The back has to be demolished, maybe the front too.”

Giangrasso says that the business has been around for over 65 years. The business came into his family when his father purchased it in 1970. Giangrasso purchased it from his father in 1996. The business works on carburetor, starters, fuel injectors and other general repairs. When the shop collapsed, seven cars inside were damaged.

No one was at the shop when the collapse occurred. Friends gathered to help cover the exposed building with tarps. A fence was also installed. According to property records, the building was originally constructed in 1959.
